A New Era in Medical Design

The £32m facility, designed by Ryder Architecture, opened in August and combines the accident and emergency, walk in centre, medical and surgical assessment and urgent children’s services under one roof.

The RICS judges said, “The £32 million accident and emergency care centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead is an exemplar project not only in terms of the architecture and facilities provided but also in how it brings together all the medical facilities required to treat patients during an emergency into a single bright modern new building.”

This new facility heralds a new era in medical design and provides a peaceful and quiet environment where patients are visible to all staff at all times.  That coupled with the latest wireless technologies which streamline patient flow make this an outstanding winner by far, which will greatly benefit the Gateshead community and surrounding areas for generations to come.”
