Build New York Live Competition Winners

Ryder Alliance has won the international Build New York live 2015 competition; the latest in the Build Earth Live series.

The international multidisciplinary teams were given two days to design part of the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York since Rockefeller Center.  The challenging competition called for participants to reimagine the western yard site at Hudson yards.

Beating off stiff international competition, the team was named the overall winner of the online Building Information Modelling (BIM) competition which took place from 21 to 23 September. Entrants were given just 48 hours to respond to the design brief using state of the art BIM and project technologies to submit their entries using a cloud based collaboration portal provided by sponsor ASite.

Ryder Architecture’s Sarah O’Connor, who led the design approach, said “We’re delighted Ryder Alliance won the overall prize in the Build New York Live competition.  To coordinate involvement from different continents with different time zones has its challenges, but we worked well on planning the process and ensuring there were regular updates.

“Our partners in Australia and Spain in Ryder Alliance played an integral role in this success, as did other consultants as part of the collective team effort.”

Cundall’s Abiola Ige, Electrical Engineer on the design, said “We are over the moon to have won the competition. Build Earth Live is an experience that should be tasted by all designers.  It enables you to think outside the box within a limited time frame, and work with people from different disciplines.  I had no idea how much we could achieve within a limited time.”
