The £212m project, designed by Ryder Architecture in partnership with NBBJ and developer Laing O’Rourke, is shortlisted for Best Healthcare Development.
The hospital was conceived as a garden hospital and designed to meet the increasingly sophisticated healthcare needs of the region’s ageing population. As hospitals become even more focused on creating environments that improve the experience for patients, families and staff, it is key comfort and wellbeing are at the forefront of our minds. Ryder in partnership with NBBJ have designed a therapeutic and inspirational new hospital for Dumfries, one that serves as a prototype for other healthcare developments in the future.
Located on a greenfield site on the outskirts of the Scottish town of Dumfries, the 63,500sqm infirmary provides 344 beds, day case and inpatient surgical suites, an emergency care centre, ambulatory care centre, specialist oncology, maternity and paediatric facilities.
After opening to patients in December 2017, the hospital is one of 44 successful projects shortlisted from over 200 entries from 55 countries from around the world.
With the additional restaurant, fitness centre and park, the new hospital provides an uplifting people centred environment connected to its wonderful landscape setting for the effective and efficient delivery of healthcare for the people of Dumfries and Galloway.
Winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on the final day of MIPIM, held at the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
