Invest Newcastle Launches MIPIM 2020

Invest Newcastle has launched their plans for a return to MIPIM, the world’s largest international property conference.

A breakfast event was held at The Biosphere on Newcastle Helix where Invest Newcastle were joined by both the private and public sector. All attendees were interested in playing part in championing our region on a global stage.

MIPIM takes place over four days, gathering some of the most influential players from all sectors of the international property industry.  More than 26,000 delegates from 100 countries attend, providing an opportunity to connect with key decision makers.

Newcastle, alongside 550 other cities use MIPIM to promote our region’s strengths as one of the UK’s fastest growing places in which to invest, develop or locate.  Invest Newcastle has led a public private sector delegation to MIPIM for the last four years, with key players in Newcastle’s property sector representing the region and presenting projects at this world leading conference.  In March 2019 a record delegation of almost 90 people from 32 organisations joined forces to showcase the North East to the international property world.

This will be the fifth year Invest Newcastle have led a high level delegation, with several partners already committed to joining them in 2020. Gateshead Council, Business Durham, Avison Young, Ryder Architecture, Deloitte, Naylors Gavin Black, High Street Group, Bradley Hall, Hanro, Union Property, Lambert Smith Hampton and first time partners Pegasus Group who have recently set up operations in the North East.

Avison Young has been part of the Newcastle delegation for the past three years and will be joining Invest Newcastle again in 2020 as a premier partner.

Gordon Hewling, Principal and Managing Director from Avison Young said: “It provides us with the opportunity to engage with decision makers, pitch opportunities and raise our profile in the region.  It really is a great platform for everyone to come together to promote our region.  For me, it is crucial for us to be part of the North East conversation and highlight the connected effort of partners in supporting the region to achieve its economic ambitions.”

Paul Bell, Partner at Ryder Architecture who have also committed as partners said: “MIPIM is an important and effective platform for the promotion of our region – our culture, our skills and innovation, our passion and our openness to collaboration.  Invest Newcastle presented an excellent delegation in 2019, building on the successes of previous years and I’m sure MIPIM 2020 will be better still.  We are excited to continue our partnership as an active member of Team Newcastle working together to celebrate our city, showcase our portfolio and enhance our reputation as thought leaders within the property community on an international stage.”

The Newcastle stand provides a platform for partners to engage with investors and to deliver a events programme that showcases the city’s strengths.  In 2020 Invest Newcastle are introducing the theme of wellness and urban sustainability, which will play a significant role in the design of the stand and events programme, gathering thought leaders and experts to talk about the challenges and opportunities of building a truly sustainable city.

As well as delivering all aspects of the region’s presence at MIPIM, Invest Newcastle also work closely with partners to help them raise their profile, providing opportunities and support throughout the whole process.  Once again, all delegates will able to take advantage of a Jet2.com direct flight to Nice from Newcastle International Airport, making the journey as smooth as possible before four days of meetings, networking and events.

Jennifer Hartley, Director, Invest Newcastle said: “We are a city with a vision to help people live well for longer and as world leaders in research into healthy ageing and the current UK Smartest City of the Year, there has never been a better time to partner with other developers, cities and local authorities to gain international exposure and profile.

“The strength and passion of our delegation is what makes MIPIM such a success.  It is vital that we continue to have a strong presence, helping us to position ourselves as a leading city and secure investment.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has committed to be part of our 2020 delegation so far, and we look forward to welcoming more partners.”

Pat Ritchie, Chief Executive, Newcastle City Council added: “We compete for investment on a global stage and the Newcastle partnership provides businesses with an opportunity to meet with influential investors and decision makers. For those looking for capital, wanting to pitch development opportunities, broaden networks and champion our region, MIPIM is the place to be.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all partners, past and present, for the role they have played in supporting the city.  I invite you to join us in 2020 and be part of our region’s future.”
