Multiple Shortlists in RICS Awards

The awards recognise and reward the best projects from various regions around the UK in eight categories.

The commercial category sees two Ryder projects shortlisted, the Darlington based Hitachi Rail Europe and Strawberry Place, located near St James’ Park.  Hitachi Rail Europe, the biggest investment that the region has seen since Nissan, is also nominated for a regeneration award.

Ronnie Graham, partner at Ryder and project director of Strawberry Place, said, “The project provides the best student experience in the city, offering far more than any of the competing student accommodation.  Its location at the heart of the city and the university campus has helped it become Vita Student’s best performing development in 2017 and helped introduce much need activity and vitality along Strawberry Place which will lead to further development in this part of city.  We’re delighted to have been involved with these developments and it’s fantastic to see the finished buildings receive this recognition and making a positive impact to their users, communities and the north east economy.”

The People’s Theatre on Stephenson Road, an established community facility with a history of significantly contributing to the artistic and cultural life of Newcastle, is up for a community benefit award.

The awards will take place on 20 April and winners will compete against all other regional winners in November to be awarded UK winner in their respective categories.
