Newcastle College Gateway

We have been appointed by Newcastle College to design their new Gateway Building.

The college’s aspiration is to create a landmark building which will be located off St James Boulevard opposite the Discovery Museum, a fantastic city centre opportunity for Ryder Architecture.

The selection process has been protracted and was based upon a fee and written submission followed by a short design competition.

The building will include student services, a library and learning resource centre, a senior management suite, a refectory and central administration functions.

The first project briefing took place on 16 April 2013 and the college design brief has now focused on delivering an exchange hub for ideas and innovation which will bring new challenges to the project.

The programme is extremely ambitious with site clearance starting next month and the construction commencing in September 2013 with a completion date proposed for August 2014.
