Ryder Bursary 2017

Ryder are passionate about people development.  Now in its 18th year, the Ryder Bursary is open to all year out students working across the business.  It is awarded for outstanding work in both university and practice, based on assessment following an interview and examination of portfolios.  It provides a stipend of £15,000 for the following two years of study for a Master of architecture degree.

This year, Fran Harrison, Gordon Murray and Sarah O’Connor (chair) had an enjoyable day interviewing seven candidates for the award – Lara Bandoni, Tiffany Cheung, Hannah Dawood, Laura Duffy, Lynsey Hogarth, Venue Ng and Daniel Williams.

The candidates were all very professional in their approach to the interview process and it was encouraging to see such a high standard and broad range of work undertaken during their time at Ryder.  Each candidate has clearly made a positive contribution to each of their respective teams and should be commended for that.  It is also interesting to compare how this is impacted upon by the content and approach of the various courses from which the students have arrived Bath, Hong Kong, Liverpool, Northumbria, Nottingham and Strathclyde.

Whilst the panel were agreed on Lara as the most comprehensively outstanding student, the marking for all students was very close.

Lara Bandoni (Strathclyde) is awarded the Ryder Bursary for 2017, with commendations to Hannah Dawood (Northumbria), and Daniel Williams (Liverpool).  Previous winners include Julie Hutchinson 2015 and in 2016 Hannah Bryan, both from Liverpool University.
