Occupying the site of the former University of Sunderland engineering department, the development of 58 apartments over seven storeys is part of a mixed use scheme including offices, sheltered accommodation and public realm.
All the apartments benefit from private balconies and some have access to large private roof terraces offering expansive views across the city and to the coast.
The facade is mainly large span pre cast concrete units which help to create a sense of mass and weight as well as providing the opportunity to detail a highly engineered, crisp envelope. This material also maximises light reflection between the buildings to animate and enliven the public spaces at ground level. Full height glazing panels set up a strong rhythm on the facades and together with areas of timber cladding establishes links with the design of the adjacent office building.
