A replacement for two existing schools providing accommodation for 1,200 students aged 11 – 16 plus a 200 place sixth form.
The project developed from a radical brief based on differentiated, yet highly flexible, space to reduce the level of ownership over teaching and staff spaces, allowing learning periods to take place in areas which best facilitate that period’s activity.
The design is organised in three main elements: the curved block, a linear block and a central hub.
The curved block houses the majority of the teaching and learning spaces and contains four learning zones based on the skills: make, idea, test and perform, rather than traditional subject areas.
All school gathering and social activities take place in the open central hub.
