The centre is designed to improve and reform pathways for emergency patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.  It provides co-located and integrated facilities for adult medical, paediatric and surgical assessment, medical and surgical short stay, accident and emergency care and a walk in centre.

Through a single front door, emergency patients access facilities to assess, diagnose and promptly treat them.  The facility is designed to improve quality of care, safety and productivity whilst reducing waste and duplication of service.

In addition, it provides a main entrance and arrival point to the hospital at the front of the site.  The extensively researched clinical specification requires the design to be based on a linear process incorporated in specialised assessment pods.
