Ryder Team Saddle Up for Charity Challenge

Ryder Architecture’s Liverpool team are cycling 7,194 miles for charity from their office to their overseas base in Hong Kong... without moving an inch.

Using an exercise bike set up at Liverpool Science Park innovation centre 1, where they recently moved, they are clocking up the miles in time for their 60th anniversary exhibition at Equator, Mann Island, Liverpool, in October.

Gareth Callen, Ryder director, said “Each team member has been putting in some time each week since May to reach our mileage target and we have the added challenge of achieving it before our 60th anniversary exhibition in October.”

The team are currently 4,740 miles away from Hong Kong with some serious peddling required during the remaining months to hit their target.  Some staff have moved the exercise bike to get some inspiration with Elizabeth Tollitt cycling opposite Ryder’s LSP innovation centre 3 building, due to complete in spring 2014.

Steve Ayling, Ryder senior architectural technologist in Liverpool recently completed an 888 mile Ryder UK cycle challenge.  He explained “Hong Kong is a much longer distance than the previous UK challenge but it is indoors, the weather conditions are better (our UK challenge was on real bikes outdoors) and it involves other people to make up the distance too.  I could certainly be forgiven though for associating our 60th anniversary with saddle soreness !”

Zoë’s Place fundraising manager, Carol Kirkham said “We were absolutely delighted we have been chosen as Ryder Liverpool’s 60th anniversary charity.   In order to raise much needed funds for our hospice, their staff have pledged to undertake many fundraising initiatives throughout the year including their Hong Kong trek.  We cannot thank them enough for their unceasing support.”
