The Duke of Cambridge Visits Ryder

The Duke of Cambridge visited four selected venues on trails across the Great Exhibition of the North – a three-month celebration of the north of England’s pioneering spirit.

Showcasing great art, culture, design and innovation from across the north, the exhibition tells the story of the north of England and how its innovators, businesses, artists and designers have shaped our present and are inspiring our future.

The final visit of the day was to Ryder Architecture at Cooper’s Studios, where His Royal Highness toured the Horse to Hyperloop exhibition, hearing about the potential of using Hyperloop technology demonstrated by the Northern Arc team in collaboration with Arup and Hyped.

The prince was given a demonstration of how a 700mph Hyperloop transport system could link Liverpool to Glasgow via Newcastle in just 47 minutes. His Royal Highness also met Lara Tabet, Arup who described the engieering behind the technology and was then shown a prototype pod designed by Edinburgh University students which could one day be propelled using magnetic propulsion to zoom passengers through tubes. Finally, the Duke met with school children taking part in Ryder’s bridge to the future competition which aimed to inspire new young talent into the construction industry. Over 7,500 visitors visited Horse to Hyperloop during the summer.
