Armstrong Works was originally designed by the practice in 1982 for Vickers.  The building, almost half a kilometre long, included heavy engineering workshops, welfare accommodation and extensive testing facilities for their products and armoured fighting vehicles.

30 years later Ryder was recommissioned to renovate the building by the Reece Group. A phased handover from its tenant, then BAE, ran to late 2014 when five independent engineering companies owned by the Reece Group co located to Armstrong Works.

Following analysis of the spatial and operational requirements for each company, the initial phases involved the creation and refurbishment of office space for over 200 staff, workshop space for over 350 staff and redesigning the site access and egress strategy.
