The Timbre and Harmony Affordable Housing Development is a response to the ideals of the Brightside Community Homes Foundation to build and foster resilient communities for those who struggle to meet the demands of market housing.

The affordable housing development aims to create affordable housing that is warm and inviting, sensitive to its context, cost effective to construct and maintain, and highly energy efficient.

The project involves the redevelopment of two existing aging affordable housing buildings located in east Vancouver and is comprised of 157 studio and one bedroom suites in two, six storey buildings. Located on a busy south facing arterial, the buildings are realised as simple, rationalised and well resolved forms that respond to contextual constraints and opportunities.

The communal nature of the south facing central courtyard is emphasised through visual and pathway connections, with urban agriculture and commons spaces visually connected to building amenity spaces, kitchens and lounges. The project is being designed and constructed to the international Passive House standard.
