Ryder was commissioned to provide architectural, interior design and placemaking services to develop FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies’ (FDB) north site in Billingham.

The brief was to establish a masterplan, setting the vision for the phased development of a comprehensive bio campus, and deliver the first building.

The first phase is an office and visitor facility with associated parking and a landscape setting, designed to accommodate 400 staff.  The front of the site provides a high quality, welcoming arrival experience for visitors and staff.

An arrival plaza with two large pools reflects the contemporary building façade and invites visitors to the main entrance of the building.

To the south of the building, the restaurant spills out to a landscape terrace overlooking a natural pond with water lilies.  A series of seating terraces allow people to get closer to the water, creating a relaxing natural environment for staff.
