We were appointed by the Sodertalje Commune to advise on the regeneration of their town centre through the creation of a new urban quarter.
Sodertalje forms one of the most important dormitory communities in Stockholm and is situated adjacent to the principal lock linking the Sodertalje canal to the sea, an important trade route.
Visually, the existing town centre had no obvious heart to focus communal activities. This was largely due to the proximity of the towns open aspect to the waterways.
Our solution, adopted by the community after lengthy consultation, was to create a raft over the existing waterway to create a new public space, surrounded by a variety of uses including leisure, commercial, retail and residential.
