Ryder developed the masterplan and hospital design for Whipps Cross in Waltham Forest, north east London, to support the future needs of the local population and ensure the delivery of safe and sustainable clinical services.
The Ryder led multi disciplinary team includes specialisms in urban design, placemaking and architecture, which span healthcare, commercial and residential design.
The redevelopment provides a strategic opportunity for Barts NHS Health Trust to deliver the same core services through new models of care in a state of the art hospital – vastly improving the experience for patients and staff. The hospital delivers NHS targets for net zero carbon, digital infrastructure and construction using modern methods of construction.
The masterplan vision is for ‘a hospital in a garden and a garden in a hospital’, bringing the benefits of neighbouring Epping Forest into the site.
A true asset at the heart of the local community and a multi provider facility, the site will deploy new clinical pathways, a diverse range of support for patients, carers and families, and innovative workforce models to realise operational and economic efficiencies – the core of an integrated care system.
The wider campus includes up to 1,500 homes with new public parks, better access and supporting facilities such as community health, commercial and leisure.
