The Crichton Estate is an education and business campus including 20 listed buildings within a conservation area. Established in 1839 as the Crichton Royal Hospital, the campus was originally founded to provide world leading mental health care.

The masterplan identifies the estate’s capacity to absorb development, taking into account the many constraints and developing design principles for new buildings, extensions and landscape to be adopted as planning guidance in the local development plan.

Stakeholders included the University of Glasgow, the University of the West of Scotland, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland’s Rural University College, and Dumfries and Galloway College.
