The centre is designed to improve and reform pathways for emergency patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It provides co-located and integrated facilities for adult medical, paediatric and surgical assessment, medical and surgical short stay, accident and emergency care and a walk in centre.

Emergency care and assessment facilities are located at ground access level incorporating 56 identical assessment rooms in seven flexible pods, supported by diagnostic and resuscitation pods. The first floor provides two 24 bed short stay inpatient wards, all beds being provided in identical single bed ensuite rooms.

Public amenity, cafe and retail spaces are provided within an atrium space at the lower ground level while general hospital ancillary space is accommodated on the same floor plate.
