The building provides managed workspace for start up and small businesses on a site which adjoins a major trunk road at a key gateway to the region.

It sets out to make a big impression by exploiting its key location and expressing innovation and a spirit of prosperity and confidence.

The design consists of a pair of linked cubes, each containing four floors of flexible space, poised in the landscape over a free form plinth containing reception, café, information area and meeting spaces.

“Ryder interacted exceptionally well, in particular, taking time to engage with our user groups to gain a thorough understanding of the requirements.

“The centre has been a great success and support to local businesses.  Over 1000 local jobs have been created by business people who started in the centre since May 2005 showing how the building has acted as a catalyst for regeneration in the area.

“The brief specified the ambition to create an iconic building meeting high standards of sustainability and Ryder exceeded our expectations!”
