Ryder Appointed by Legal and General

Ryder has been appointed as the design practice to deliver the first of its Grade A office buildings at Newcastle Science Central.

Located in Newcastle’s city centre, Science Central is a 24 acre science and technology hub based on Newcastle Brown Ale’s former brewery site.

Appointed by Legal & General Capital (LGC), the £350m hub’s long term investment partner, Ryder will help to drive the site’s goal of increasing the amount of Grade A office space available in the city.

The announcement was made at an event held on the Invest Newcastle stand at property trade show MIPIM.

Richard Wise, partner at Ryder, said, “Building A promises to deliver a high quality, timeless piece of architecture which will provide unique, much needed flexible office space on one of the most prominent gateway sites in Newcastle.

“It will set the tone for the subsequent developments.  Ryder is delighted to have this opportunity to build upon the success enjoyed to date on Science Central.“

Pat Ritchie, Chief Executive at Newcastle City Council said, “Newcastle is seeing strong growth in the commercial office market, and there’s huge demand for Grade A office space in the city, particularly for large corporate occupiers.

“We’re responding to that demand on Newcastle Science Central, with significant development planned over the next five years.“

Laura Mason, Director of Direct Investments at Legal & General Capital, added, “With a proven track record in cutting edge, quality design, and experience working with the team on the laboratory facility, we feel confident that Ryder is the right firm to help us achieve our vision.“
