Comprising 52 purpose-built studio units, the BC Housing Supportive Housing Development at Paddle Road in the Municipality of North Cowichan on Vancouver Island will provide homes for those experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, homelessness in the community.

Responding to the urgent need for housing in the area amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, our team was retained by design-builder Nomodic to build cost-effective and welcoming spaces for some of the area’s most vulnerable persons.

The wood-framed, volumetric modules were designed and fabricated in a factory off-island and transported to the project site. Preconstruction of the modules significantly expedited the project schedule, with 36 modules being assembled in just nine days. In addition to providing secure housing, the development also accommodates food provision, medical services, and mental health and addiction recovery to serve the needs of those who call Paddle Road home.
