Design of a new urban village on the outskirts of the town centre providing 400 dwellings knitted into the urban fabric of the town centre and Gateshead’s iconic quayside.

The project sought to address the issues associated with lack of choice and diversity in contemporary housing and to promote a genuinely socially sustainable mixed community with a strong sense of place. Environmental sustainability was also key to the brief with a wide range of innovative prototypes including earth dwellings.

There are 14 house types, each offering different sizes and configurations tailored to alternative lifestyles. The range runs from highly distinctive single aspect units to interlocking mews clusters to more conventional three and four bedroom terraced and detached homes.
