Making a difference. We encourage and support our people to give back to causes they are passionate about through charity fundraising, supporting pro bono initiatives and volunteering opportunities.

PlanBEE (Built Environment Education)

A campaign for change in Built Environment Education.

Identifying failings in traditional built environment education and protesting against trends towards unpaid internships, in 2016 Ryder launched PlanBEE. It is now an industry wide partnership shaping the talent of the future and inspiring people to consider a rewarding career in the world of construction.

In 2017, PlanBEE was recognised by Building as skills initiative of the year and, in 2018, by the AJ100 as collaboration of the year. In 2021, PlanBEE expanded to Manchester in partnership with Manchester City Council and Manchester Life, and in 2023 to London and Vancouver.

Ryder is the founding patron of this charitable incorporated organisation, working to improve lives in areas of limited assets through community driven, research based design initiatives sensitive to local contexts. Volunteers are involved in a range of projects throughout the UK and internationally.
