Peter Barker

Peter graduated from Leeds University with a degree in classics in 1981, before studying architectural technology at Northumbria University. He joined Ryder in 1995 after several years in practice where he gained a solid grounding in technical design and design management on a range of complex and challenging process engineering projects. Peter leads the research and innovation initiatives including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with universities and was responsible for maximising the potential of emerging BIM technologies. Peter also developed business management systems including quality, environment and safety. Between 2004 and 2010, Peter led the team at Ryder responsible for the design and delivery of major UK schools and HE programs, before setting up the BIM Academy joint venture with Northumbria University in 2010. Outside of work, Peter enjoys strolling the Northumbrian countryside, photographing his travels and reminiscing with former bandmates on their musical career in the post punk era.
