South Shields, UK - Industrial
Located in South Shields, Dogger Bank Operations and Maintenance Base was built to facilitate onshore functions required to support the Dogger House Wind Farm—the world’s largest offshore windfarm situated 130km off the north east coast.
Not only a functional setting, but a great place to work, the key driver for the project was sustainable architecture, to achieve net zero in alignment with the LETI and RIBA benchmarks. We set out a framework for sustainability, developing KPIs and targets for energy use, performance and generation, as well as embedding opportunities for future climate scenarios.
The site is located on the south bank of the River Tyne and was brownfield, consisting entirely of hard standing. Since taking over the site, the landscape scheme of this project was aimed at maximising green space, integrating rain gardens, trees and plant beds to enhance biodiversity and habitat provision.
The building construction took just over a year, which proved a great achievement amidst the challenges posed by a post COVID landscape. A space within natural surroundings, Dogger House Operations and Maintenance Base showcases an intricately planned setting which enhances the user experience while nurturing an eco-conscious workplace environment.
